Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], March 14 (ANI): Congress leader V. Hanumantha Rao on Friday backed Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin for calling a meeting of Chief Ministers and leaders of various parties regarding the proposed delimitation of Parliamentary constituencies, claiming that 'South India' is being 'completely' ignored.
Speaking to ANI, Rao said that the North Indian states are being given more importance while the South Indian states are being completely overlooked.
'Tamil Nadu has rightly called for a meeting concerning delimitation. I hope everyone supports this issue, as the North is getting more importance, and the South is being completely ignored. I hope our Chief Minister (Revanth Reddy) will also join the meeting, and the Karnataka Deputy CM will join the meeting as well. Leaders from the North should also join MK Stalin's meeting,' Rao said.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has called for a meeting regarding the proposed delimitation of Parliamentary constituencies on March 22 in Chennai.
Earlier, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy criticized the BJP-led Central government over the delimitation exercise scheduled for 2026, saying that the BJP is doing this to settle scores with the people of the southern states because they have never allowed the BJP to grow.
Telangana CM Reddy on Wednesday met a DMK delegation led by MP Kanimozhi, who invited him to the CM's meeting called by MK Stalin on March 22.
Speaking to the media, CM Reddy said, 'Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin sent a delegation to me, inviting me to join the meeting concerning the delimitation. The Central government, led by BJP-NDA, is conspiring against the Southern states. This is not a delimitation but a 'limitation' for Southern states. We won't accept this at any cost. BJP is doing all this to settle scores with the people of the Southern states because the people there have never allowed the BJP to grow. BJP is engaging in vendetta politics.'
Reddy also expressed his support for Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin's stance on the delimitation issue, saying, 'I welcome Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin's stand.'
'I welcome Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin's stand. I have to get permission from the party's high command to attend the meeting called by the Tamil Nadu CM; in principle, I have agreed to the demand,' CM Reddy said.
Notably, the Stalin-led DMK government in Tamil Nadu has been protesting against the Central government's three-language formula in the national education policy and the delimitation.
CM Stalin has called for a united political front against the proposed delimitation exercise, urging various parties to join forces in opposing what he termed a 'blatant assault on federalism.' (ANI)
