Agartala (Tripura) [India], July 11 (ANI): Tripura Minister Sudhangshu Das attended the 25th National Fish Farmers' Day.
In his address, Das expressed deep appreciation to all fish farmers from Tripura and across the country for their relentless efforts in boosting fish production and contributing to the state's economy.
The event was celebrated with great enthusiasm at the College of Fisheries, Tripura, under the Central Agricultural University. The event was graced by several dignitaries from the fisheries and academic sectors, paying homage to the legendary fisheries scientist, Professor Hiralal Chaudhuri, the pioneer of induced breeding of Indian major carps in India, dating back to 1957.
He highlighted the importance of fisheries as a sector that ensures livelihood and self-reliance for thousands of families.
'Our goal is to further increase fish production in Tripura while fulfilling our internal demand. This sector holds immense potential for employment and economic growth,' the minister said.
Das further said, 'Today, we have gathered here at the Fisheries College in Tripura, at the Pre-Vishwas Hall, to celebrate National Fish Farmers' Day. This annual event is primarily organised to pay tribute to the renowned scientist, Professor Dr. Hiralal Chaudhuri, who is regarded as the pioneer of induced breeding of Indian major carps in India in the year 1957. Due to his remarkable discovery, National Fish Farmers' Day is now celebrated across the entire country. On this auspicious occasion, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude and thanks to all the fish farmers of our state, Tripura, as well as from across the country, for their outstanding contributions in enhancing fish production in our state.'
He further stated fisheries sector is one such field where people can earn a livelihood easily, therefore our goal is to further increase fish production in Tripura.
'The fisheries sector is one such field where people can earn a livelihood easily and become self-reliant. Therefore, our goal and vision is to further increase fish production in Tripura while also meeting the state's internal demand. With this aim in mind, we have gathered here today to celebrate this important day. I sincerely thank the respected Dean of the Fisheries College for inviting me on this special occasion. Once again, I would like to pay my deepest respect and heartfelt gratitude to the honorable, proud, and inspirational fisheries scientist Professor Dr. Hiralal Chaudhuri for his extraordinary and memorable contribution to the fisheries sector,' he added.
The celebration served as a platform to recognize the legacy of Professor Hiralal Chaudhuri, whose groundbreaking research laid the foundation for scientific aquaculture practices in India. His contributions continue to inspire fishery professionals and policy-makers nationwide.
He also extended heartfelt thanks to the Dean and faculty of the College of Fisheries for organizing the program and fostering collaboration among researchers, policymakers, and farmers. (ANI)
