Agartala (Tripura) [India], July 28 (ANI): After the alleged attack of TIPRA party workers on BJP workers, BJP state general secretary Bipin Debbarma claimed that the 'goons' of the TIPRA Motha party attacked the BJP workers with the intention of killing them and the incident left several party workers injured and vehicles damaged.
He also thanked Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha for taking swift action in the incident.
BJP state general secretary Bipin Debbarma, while talking to ANI, said, '... A programme to listen to 'Mann Ki Baat' was organised at booth number 30 of Asharambari. All our workers were listening to this programme. Suddenly, some goons of the TIPRA Motha party attacked our workers with the intention of killing them... Around seven of our workers were injured, of whom three to four are in a serious condition. They are being treated at GB Hospital...'
He further stated that about 12 motorcycles were completely destroyed and two cars belonging to the Mandal President and another party worker were also damaged.
'I want to thank the Chief Minister for taking swift action in this matter. One person has already been arrested. The other accused will be arrested shortly,' he added.
An injured BJP worker, Somendra Debbarma, said, 'Today, we were watching the 124th episode of Prime Minister Modi's Mann Ki Baat at Asharambari when suddenly, some miscreants from Tipra Motha attacked us. As a result, we were injured. What they did was completely unacceptable.'
Another BJP worker, Jintu Debbarma, shared his account and said, 'Today, I had gone to listen to the Prime Minister's Mann Ki Baat program in Khowai. During the event, some members of the Tipra Motha group attacked me. I tried to run away from the spot, but they caught me and beat me up.'
Earlier, Tripura CM Manik Saha visited the hospital where the injured BJP workers were admitted to inspect their condition and directed the hospital doctors to provide them with best treatment.
While talking to the media after seeing the injured, he said, 'We have been seeing bloodshed and violence in politics in Tripura for many years... The Prime Minister wants calm and quiet politics... But today crossed all limits...These people (BJP workers) were listening to 'Mann Ki Baat' in booth number 30 in Asharambari at the house of a worker. There they (TIPRA Motha party workers) went and beat up the workers... This politics of force through violence will not work in Tripura; it has been too long now.'
CM Manik condemned the act on his X where he posted pictures from his hospital visit and wrote, 'Strongly condemn the violent & undemocratic attack by TIPRA Motha party workers during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Mann ki Baat programme at Asharambari.'
He further added, 'Several BJP karyakartas injured, 3 undergoing treatment at GB Hospital. I visited the hospital, instructed doctors to provide the best care & directed police to take strict action against perpetrators. Such disgraceful acts won't be tolerated.
Earlier, workers of TIPRA Motha allegedly attacked a 'Mann Ki Baat' programme of Prime Minister Narendra Modi held at Asharam Bari, under Khowai District of Tripura, injuring several BJP workers and destroying vehicles as well. (ANI)
