New Delhi [India], September 30 (ANI): Over a year after being expelled from the BJP, Bhojpuri actor and singer Pawan Singh on Tuesday met Union Minister and BJP national president JP Nadda at his residence in the national capital.
Asked about whether he will join the BJP again, Singh said, 'When did we separate? We are together.'
Notably, this visit precedes the Bihar assembly elections, which are expected to take place in October or November this year.
Pawan Singh was a member of Bharatiya Janata Party but was expelled in 2024 due to his anti-party activities.
The BJP had expelled him for running as an independent candidate in the Karakat Lok Sabha constituency, defying the party's official candidate from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). In the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, Pawan Singh had announced his intention to contest the Karakat seat independently, a move that led to his expulsion.
Previously, the BJP had fielded Singh as a candidate from the Asansol constituency in West Bengal; however, he had declined the ticket to run from the Asansol seat. Singh was considered as a candidate to counter TMC's Shatrughan Sinha in Asansol but opted out due to backlash from the Trinamool Congress (TMC) over his controversial music videos and films.
The BJP had then selected Surinderjeet Singh Ahluwalia as its candidate for Asansol after Singh stepped down. Following this, Singh decided to contest independently from Bihar's Karakat constituency.
Meanwhile, political activity in Bihar has intensified with leaders trading barbs against each other ahead of the polls.
The primary contest is between the incumbent National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, and the Mahagathbandhan led by the RJD.
In the current Bihar Assembly, comprising 243 members, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) consists of 131 members, with the BJP having 80 MLAs, JD(U) having 45, HAM(S) having 4, and the support of 2 Independent Candidates. (ANI)
