Rohtak (Haryana) [India], October 4 (ANI): Leader of Opposition in the Haryana Assembly and senior Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Friday accused the BJP government of betraying women voters by backtracking on its flagship promise of providing Rs 2,100 monthly financial assistance, now mired in a contentious registration process.
Addressing a press conference here, Hooda questioned the necessity of mandatory registrations, pointing out that the government already holds data on citizens.
'They (BJP) had said they will give Rs 2100 to all women, now they are asking them to register. They have everyone's Aadhar card, address, and family ID. Then, what is the need for registration? They had said they will give it to 20 lakh women, but till now only 1 lakh 71 thousand women have registered. This is a betrayal of the women of Haryana, they (BJP) say one thing and do another,' he said.
This comes after the Haryana Chief Minister announced in August the implementation of the Deendayal Lado Laxmi Yojana for social security and respect for women in September. Under this scheme, eligible women will receive a monthly financial assistance of Rs 2,100.
Recently, Senior Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda has been named the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Haryana Legislative Assembly, according to a notification issued by the Haryana Vidhan Sabha Secretariat.
Congratulating the new office-bearers, Congress leader Raj Babbar wrote on X, 'Heartfelt congratulations to former Chief Minister of Haryana and @BhupinderShooda ji on being appointed as the Leader of Opposition, and to Rao Narendra Singh ji on being appointed as the President of the Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee! Hooda ji has kept the Congress family in Haryana strong even in difficult circumstances through unwavering resolve and struggle.
Meanwhile, Rao Sahab's ability to take everyone along makes him special. Under the leadership of both, the Haryana Congress will become even more powerful and strong.'
Congress had appointed Rao Narender Singh as state party chief and former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda as the leader of the Congress Legislature Party.
The appointment of Hooda as CLP leader came almost a year after the state assembly polls, which the Congress lost, despite expectations that the party would come to power in the state.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge made the appointments. (ANI)
