New Delhi [India], May 2 (ANI): Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Saturday trained guns at the Centre over the prevailing heatwave conditions, mocking the government's preparedness as 'Pradhan Mantri Pyaaz Vitran Yojana.'
In a post on X, the Congress leader ridiculed Union Minister Jitendra Singh's recent reported remarks, asking people not to panic over the heatwave conditions.
Referring to Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia's suggestion of carrying onions to beat the heat, Ramesh wrote on X, 'Certainly no cause for panic as his colleague, famously a Harvard-Stanford alumnus, has already announced the prdhaan mNtrii pyaaj vitrnn yojnaa'

On Monday, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said he avoids air conditioning even in extreme summer heat, describing it as part of having 'Chambal skin,' and advised people to carry an onion as a traditional remedy.
Addressing the public in Shivpuri on Sunday, Scindia said, 'I don't use air conditioning in my car, nor do I sit in an air-conditioned environment. And when people ask me, even in the 51-degree heat of May and June, I say, 'This is Chambal skin.' And let me tell you something else: I look a little young, but my soul is very old. Keep an onion in your pocket.'
'Nothing will happen to you. And in today's times, everyone is carrying boxes. The communication minister is carrying onions. These are old things. And as Ayurveda progresses, we shouldn't forget these things,' he said.
Meanwhile, in line with the Delhi Heatwave Action Plan and in compliance with the directions of the Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta, and Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh, Delhi Transport Corporation has undertaken special measures to safeguard the health and convenience of passengers during the ongoing heatwave conditions in the National Capital.
According to a press release, Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh said, 'Ensuring passenger welfare during extreme weather conditions is our top priority. Through the 'Jaldoot' initiative, we are making every effort to provide immediate relief and essential support to commuters across Delhi. I urge all citizens to stay hydrated and take necessary precautions during the heatwave.'
As part of these efforts, DTC has deployed 'Jaldoots' at 23 major bus terminals across Delhi to provide free drinking water to passengers and commuters. The initiative is aimed at offering immediate relief to the general public, particularly daily commuters who are most vulnerable to extreme heat conditions.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday warned that 'above normal heatwave days are likely over some parts of the foothills of the Himalayas, east coast states, Gujarat and Maharashtra,' indicating continued risk of extreme heat in select belts. (ANI)
